Earlier this year, the Dragons Baseball Club registered as a non-profit organization. Months later, on July 17, they finally received an approval certification and official recognition from the Chinese government for its baseball club status. With almost 10 years of history, the Dragons’ free baseball program has garnered its own baseball community within Dongguan. Today, they practice once a week on 9 a.m. every Saturday, offering training to ages two to 18.
The overarching academy is the Qilins Baseball Academy of the International School of Dongguan (ISD), which includes the Dragons Baseball Club, the Qilin’s all-star team, Dragon’s Little League, after school programs and baseball training clubs at other schools. From day one, the Qilins and Dragons have been focused on spreading the game of baseball to both Chinese locals and foreigners. In addition, advanced players can try out for the Qilins Baseball Academy team. During their most recent tournament, the Hutch Chengdu Baseball Classic, the 10u and 12u teams handily won their divisions. With over 20 teams competing at the tournament, the two teams played 13 games in all and took home two MVP awards and one Best Pitcher award.
