With seven years of experience, May Peng is a pioneer of craft beers in Dongguan. Originally, she wanted to join our annual Dongguan Craft Beer Festival, but we discovered that she mainly did imported instead of locally brewed craft beers. Still, many of the Dongguan and nearby city brewers are her long-time customers. In May Pub, there are more than 600 kinds of beer and cider. Anyone that visits the pub will be easily impressed by the options lining the walls from top to bottom. To add on to the experience, May can tell you all the details and interesting stories behind the limited- edition drinks. With a large outdoor area and a cozy indoor atmosphere, customers can easily find a comfortable seat.
With May’s recommendations, we had the pleasure of trying out three different drinks.
First up was Malmo Meadery—We Are Very Late, Honey, a Swedish beer that uses honey instead of malt. When I had my first sip, I thought I was drinking raspberry juice with a delicate honey flavor. In my opinion, this is the perfect drink for a sunny afternoon at the pool.
The Magic Rock Brewing—Random Purchase DDH IPA was next on the list. With a small sip, I could already tell that this was IPA, since it had a fruity hint with a grapefruit aftertaste.
Lastly, we were presented with the Belgium beer and highlight of the night, De Struise Brouwers—Sint Amatus—Oostvleteren 12 (2013). Made with a bourbon barrel, the beer had a dark colored body with a thin white top. In the beginning, it was very sweet, but ended with a chocolate-like taste.
Besides the environment and the available drinks, I think May’s delightful and welcoming charisma is a key element to this pub. If you are a craft beer lover, this spot should be a top destination.
