On the morning of July 12, more than 20 tons of pigs’ feet mysteriously washed up on the shores of Dongguan, surprising locals. Humen authorities began removing the pigs’ feet, which were estimated to cover over 1 kilometer on the coastline outside the Humen Naval War Museum.
The police are investigating the origins of the pigs’ feet, which is speculated to be from an overturned ship near the Nansha Islands. Authorities ensured that the pigs’ feet underwent COVID-19 prevention measures.
While netizens have voiced their concerns regarding environmental issues, food safety, swine flu and the COVID-19 pandemic, experts believe that smuggling may be involved due to the increase in China’s pork prices.
