On April 27, 920,000 grade nine and grade 12 students in 229 local public and private schools returned to campus after four-months due to COVID-19. Check points at school gates were set up to take students’ body temperature and disinfect their suitcases as they return.
“We were ready to open grades nine and 12 today, but received a call last week saying international schools would be part of second phase,” Kelly Kramer, director of the International School of Dongguan (ISD), said.
The Dongguan Education Bureau confirmed the listed 229 local schools were the only ones allowed to return so far.
On May 11 students from grades five to eight and grades 10 and 11 will also return to schools.
The bureau did not confirm a return date for kindergartens and training centers as of publication, but said training centers cannot return until after kindergartens.
