The Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy (AOFST) has propelled many participants into world-class figure skating over the past 14 years. Dongguan hosted the AOFST at the Ice Star Ice Rink, in One Mall this year from October 30 to November 3.
Twenty-four delegations from different countries and more than 160 athletes took part in this international event. Leung Yi Christy, the 2019 Chinese national champion, and Alexei Bychenko, who competed for Israel at the 2018 Winter Olympics, were among some of the famous ice skaters.
The competition was steep in some of the groups. The event started at 7 am each day and concluded with an award ceremony on November 3.
An Xiangyi, from China, won in Women’s Singles. Skate partners Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko, from the U.S., won the Group Championship. Chen Yudong, from China, won in Men’s Singles.
Tickets were not openly available to the public for the event, with most watching through the windows of the ice rink.
