The Ninth Annual Dragons Chili Cook-Off brought the spice at One for the Road on November 9, with many chili enthusiasts coming out to show support.
Taking home the title of 2019 Chili Champion was David from Grateful Q, which was decided by a blind taste test from a panel of American judges. David said he has been part of the cook-off for 8 years and has tweaked the recipe and changed techniques in some areas. A-One came in second place and Just Chili’n in third. The People’s Choice also went to the enthusiast team Just Chili’n and the Chef’s Choice went to Hollywood Baby Too.
This time it was not all about the foreign teams, with team three, the Hot Hashers, making Hunan spicy chili. Not many could handle the spice from the Hot Hashers, so they offered a soothing tea with each sample bowl. Team 12, Dreams, offered something a little sweeter with their meaty combination.
The Chili Cook-Off is an annual fundraising event for the Dongguan Dragons Baseball Club, which is a free program for kids in the Dongguan community.
“It will allow us, again, to operate the next year, offering free baseball services. One for the Road and the other sponsors were fantastic, everyone who donated things were fantastic,” Coach Jim, with the Dongguan Dragons Baseball Club, said.
