Dongguan is building an IKEA smart logistics headquarters in Binhai Bay (near Humen), as confirmed by Celine Yang, China’s public relations manager. The IKEA HQ started construction in September and will act as procurement, trade settlement and logistics distribution center. The total investment is about 1 billion RMB and is expected to be completed and put into use in 2022.
This logistics distribution center is the fourth procurement center set up by IKEA in China and the only one in South China. The project will adopt the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) to build a green, smart warehouse of 90,000 square meters. After the project is completed, it will serve about 20 stores in South China, Hong Kong, Macao, Southwest China and Southeast Asia.
With IKEA in Dongguan, it will greatly enhance the influence of the Dongguan logistics industry and the overall level of the furniture industry chain. It is expected to drive local gainings of 10 billion RMB each year to achieve an import and export volume of 7.5 billion RMB.
Unfortunately this center is not for shopping; however, Dongguan might be looking at an IKEA store in the near future as well.
