Dongguan School Updates

Classrooms around Dongguan are being filled this month with children getting ready for another year of school.

EtonHouse International School introduced their new campus on September 2, just 20 minutes from Dynatown. The school features state-of-the-art facilities including an ecological garden, an indoor heated swimming pool and resource science labs. The new campus caters to years 1 to 9, has more specialized teachers and works as an extension of their old campus in Dongcheng.

Internatinal School of Dongguan (ISD) welcomed students this year with a back to school picnic and featured seven major changes including an expansion of their Maker’s Space, a new cafeteria and implementation of a school uniform. The uniform was designed and voted on by students, Kelly Kramer, director of ISD said. She said the uniforms are meant to bring the students together as one unit, and the only complaint was that there were too many choices. The school is focusing on tailoring classes to develop each student’s interests and academic goals, as well as widening their doors for students with learning difficulties.

Utahloy International School Zengcheng welcomed students, parents and teachers back with a barbecue on August 23. The event was for the school’s community to meet in an informal setting. The school welcomed 17 new teachers. Head of School Nicholas Evans said there is a lot planned this year for Utahloy. He said the school believes in creating well-rounded students and not putting one subject above another, this is seen with their students’ high achievement rates.

Tungwah Wenzel International School (TWIS) had its Opening Day for parents and students on August 24, showing their new Songshan Lake campus. The kindergarten, primary and secondary schools were fully functioning and started the school year on September 3. The school offers a versatile curriculum to all students.

Quality Schools International (QSI) had a series of events leading up to the first day back to their purpose-built campus by Liuhua Park on August 22, with parent orientation on August 20 and an open house on August 21.

Dongguan Hanlin Experimental School started at different times for their primary, middle and high schools, and the staff underwent personnel development training and workshops in the week leading up to the start of school.

This is just the start of another great school year in Dongguan and only part of what these schools have to offer.
