China’s three main mobile phone operators are supporting an alteration from December, 2018, announced by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic.
China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom are the three main mobile operators in China, each of them providing different data sets for their users. Obviously, they are in competition with each other, which means that if you want to change your data set from one operator to another, your phone number will be altered, too. It’s very inconvenient since a mobile phone is registered for different usages. The new regulation means that you can switch mobile operators and keep the same phone number. Great news!
Sadly, this regulation is currently only available in Tianjin, Hainan, Jiangxi, Hubei and Yunnan provinces, but expected to reach the whole of China by 2020.
