Golf Course Forced to Close

0615_scene_camdorCamdor Harbour Golf Club, and its 18-hole, par-72 course, was a long course for China, and it was popular in Dongguan for course play as well as for its driving range. That’s ‘was,’ because in May the course closed its doors for good. The change, announced in March, is part of a push from the Ministry of Land and Resources to reclaim land that was being used illegally according to a 2004 law meant to stop new courses. About 600 courses were built since then.  Xinhua News reports that 66 courses have been shut down and there are likely hundreds more to follow. In Shenzhen, CTS Tycoon Golf Course was also closed. In reports to the Wall Street Journal, they claim to be reopening, but this is unlikely.
