Guangdong’s amateur golfers should be aware that Mission Hills’ Golfathon promotion has returned as of May 1. The 180-hole golf tournament, initiated in 2004 to celebrate the club’s recognition by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest golf club, takes place on 10 of the Dongguan-Shenzhen complex’s 12 courses. All amateur players, regardless of gender and age, can participate in one of four divisions during 10 qualifying matches between May 1 and September 30 with qualifiers competing on October 13 for prizes that include a seven day package with unlimited rounds of golf and resort accommodation at two of its courses.
Since its inception the annual event has attracted nearly 50,000 participants from over 30 countries. Until March, nearly 3,000 golfers had been registered, five times more than last year in the same period and 8,000 in total is expected by the group’s executive director Ye Jingchuan.
