Korean Day in Dongcheng

Dongguan has over 8,000 Korean residents. Though they might not always appear at parties and events around the community, they do have their own annual festival to celebrate living in Dongguan. The third weekend in November marks the Dongguan Overseas Koreans Day with a celebration that has been held every year since 2014.

A line of vendors were neatly organized down the middle of Dongcheng Walking Street. which is full of Korean shops and restaurants. Most of them were Korean families and individuals that are selling popular Korean snacks, like kimchi, deep-fried chicken and rice rolls, as well as, clothes and small decorations. Proceeds went to charity. From 6 to 8 pm, traditional Korean performances were displayed at the outdoor stage with a crowd of Koreans cheering and applauding.

“The reason why we planned this festival…” said Allen Kim, Chairman of The Dongguan Korea Community, the main organizer of the event, “…is so that we can focus on bringing together our Korean community, as well as, communicate with the local Chinese community.”
