Huizhou-Dongguan Train

Seven years in the making, the Dongguan-Huizhou intercity railway was partially opened on March 30. Connecting Dongguan and Huizhou, the nearly 100-km-long railway starts at Daojiao, and goes through Nancheng, Dongcheng, Liaobu, Dalang, Changping, Zhangmutou, ending at Xiaojinkou in Huizhou. The entire railway is set to be open by the end of the year.

Started in 2009, it was originally planned to open in 2012. However, every year a new finishing deadline was released, and again and again it didn’t open. The railway was also notorious for multiple collapses during construction. The most serious one occurred last year when a 300-sq.-meter sinkhole formed and a construction worker died.

The railway will connect the Dongguan Metro Line 2 (to open in May) at Xiping stop in Nancheng, and Metro Line 1 (start construction the end of 2016) at Dongcheng South stop.
