02_15_SCENE_Int B-Ball TourneyHosting its first ever sporting tournament, coming only the second year since the school has dressed organized sports teams, the International School of Dongguan (ISD) joins the newly formed Silver Division of the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS). The athletic and arts association brings together students from 68 schools, including those from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan to nurture a competitive spirit.

Matches begin on February 5 and continue over the next two days, split between the ISD campus in Nancheng and Dongguan’s NBA Training Center in Dongcheng. “I think all teams are of a similar ability level, so I am expecting a lot of competitive games on both the boys’ and girls’ sides,” said ISD Athletic Director and HERE! sports contributor Red Johnston.

Athletic directors for ACAMIS consider possible changes to divisional standings and ability levels to assure that each is represented by two schools from the north, central and southern districts. At this tournament the closest competitor, NCPA, rolls in from Guangzhou’s Nansha District, but no one will go home empty handed. Each student will receive a tournament swag bag and there are trophies for top three teams. “We are trying to make this the best tournament possible and want each team to walk away saying this was the best tournament they’ve played in,” said Johnston.
