TALKING POINTS

A supplement for grammar practice

At the beginning of the New Year, Chinese greet each other just like the rest of the world. Let’s learn more if you didn’t know more besides “xīn nián kuài lè!” (Happy New Year)

“zhù nín shēntǐ jiànkāng, xīnxiǎng shìchéng.
祝 您 身体 健康,心想 事成。
“I wish you very good health and all wishes come true.”

“xièxie nǐ, wǒ yě zhù fú nǐ quán jiā xìng fú,
谢谢 你,我 也 祝 福 你 全 家 幸 福,
“Thank you, I also wish you a very happy family and

shìyè bùbù gāoshēng.
事业 步步 高升。
achieve more goals in your career.”

We have more greetings in Chinese traditional way for the CNY. You will hear Chinese people greeting each other “gōng xǐ fā cái,” which means “May you be prosperous.” At this time you can say the same back or you may say “hóng bāo ná lái” in a cute way means “Please give me Hongbao!”
