Local Charity Changes

01_15_scene_Local Charity ChangesHaven of Hope (HOH), an organization that cares for and finds “forever families” for special needs orphans, has undergone two major changes. After two and a half years, HOH was forced to move when the landlord wouldn’t renew the lease. Luckily, what could have been a problem became a blessing.

Another apartment in the complex was open. Located in Splendid Land Garden a few minutes’ drive from Dynatown, apartments popular among expats, this one is more agreeable with their needs. “It was used as an office space, so the main floor was gutted. There are also seven bedrooms,” said Josh Kempf, a HOH board member. “We wanted to let the Dongguan community know because many volunteer weekly and swing by to spend time with [the children].”

The second change came when the staff, forced by updated Chinese law, returned six children on December 9 that had been with HOH. In keeping with the organization’s mission, six more children, these from outside of Guangdong Province, arrived on December 27.

To meet the new HOH family members, see the facilities and learn how to lend a helping hand, an open house will be held on January 25. For finalized details, follow the events page at test.heredg.com. “Most of the need is—the funding for [the] caretakers,” said Kempf.
