Tourism Booster

0614_SCENE Brief_Tourism BoosterDongguan may not count as a tourist-friendly city, even though it has been certified since 2003 among cities with the title of “China’s Top Tourist City.” The city, now needing new paths of revenue more than ever, is increasing its budget for development in local tourism. Starting this year, an annual ‘special fund’ of RMB 50 million will support tourism facilities and services. The fund will work as a subsidy for investors. Developers spending over RMB 500 million on a tourist attraction will receive RMB 10 million, and spending 100 million on upgrades is worth 1 million in assistance. Both investment levels include tax exemptions. The program, increasing the fund by 10 percent annually, will benefit construction, attractions and  branding.
